Our wardrobe staples are the pieces which never let us down, even on the trickiest of days when inspiration fails to strike. Whether it be a style of dress, knitwear or denim, we are all likely to have those failsafe items in our wardrobes on which we can pull together a strong look for any occasion. For me and I’m sure many others, jeans are undoubtedly a key wardrobe staple. But lately I’ve realised there are two other items of which many of my most loved ensembles are based around: blazers and quirky t-shirts.
My style tends to err on the side of smart casual, I like to wear more casual pieces but then add a touch of tailoring to elevate the look. Perhaps it’s my obsession with those super cool French girls such as Jeanne Damas and Anne-Laure Mais that I see as I scroll through my Instagram feed. Their outfits and overall look is impeccable, yet effortless. You can tell their look is considered and thought out, but never looks like they’ve tried too hard.
Hence, my love for the blazer and t-shirt combination. The ease of a t-shirt with the polish of a blazer makes it one of my go-to looks. Pair them with a cool pair of straight leg jeans and you’re set. Whether I’m heading to work, for brunch, or even dinner and drinks at the weekend, this is an outfit formula that never lets me down.
As soon as I saw this blazer on Willow’s Instagram, I knew it had to be mine. Checks are a key print for this season and as for those statement sleeves, well I just couldn’t resist! The Girl With The Bob
As soon as I saw this blazer on Willow’s Instagram, I knew it had to be mine. Checks are a key print for this season and as for those statement sleeves, well I just couldn’t resist! I love a good clashing print so adding this tres chic Breton tee to the look was a no brainer. The red stripe adds a pop of colour and stripes and checks are two great prints to rock together effortlessly. And like I said, with my fascination with French fashionistas, having ‘Je T’adore’ emblazoned on the tee is a perfect finishing touch!
To adapt this look to suit any occasion, just tweak your accessories. For day time, wear with trainers and a baker boy cap for ‘off duty’ vibes. Add a heeled sandal and a statement earring to bring this look to the bar and beyond. And should we be so lucky as to garner some warm weather any time soon, trade jeans for denim cut offs, add a woven straw bag, sandals and cat eye sunglasses for the ultimate Summer ensemble!
Until next time…
