Dress to Impress

Whether it be on the runway or on the coolest street style stars, the hero piece this season is undoubtedly the statement dress. Mini dresses will always be on high rotation for the warmer months, but for now it’s time for the midi and maxi (or even a ‘midaxi’ if you will) to step into the spotlight. Made to be dressed up or down, a bold frock will be your wardrobe saviour for Spring Summer 2018!

Now as a notorious lover of denim, even I have to admit it is not always the best option when the temperatures start to rise. If I’m not feeling brave enough to bare the legs, a floating midi or full-length dress is the perfect alternative. And this year I’m finally starting to realise dresses are not just for special occasions but are in fact perfect to style both up and down. I’m sure we all have one too many gowns in our wardrobes that were bought for one particular event and have never been worn again. It can be daunting to rock a statement dress for anything other than a special occasion but it’s such a shame to see an amazing piece go to waste!

Now don’t get me wrong, dresses such as this beautiful polka dot number are perfect for a fancier dress code and that’s wonderful. But they really start to earn their style points when you work them back with more casual pieces such as trainers and denim, as I’ve done here. This season the dress is meant to be worn for any and ALL occasions! You could even layer a knit and coat over the top and a pair of vintage style straight leg jeans underneath to bring it through to the colder months also.

Bold, Crayola brights are ideal if you want to stand out from the crowd or opt for soft ice cream pastels if you’d rather dial it back a notch. The Girl With The Bob

So whether you decide to wear your dress with ornamental heels, summery slides or chunky trainers, don’t be afraid to play around and experiment. Keep those moth balls at bay and ensure you get your cost per wear when shopping for dressier pieces. Anything goes with confidence so be bold, embrace the statement dress and be prepared to be turning heads for all the right reasons!

Until next time…
