The Zao Jeans are a high-waisted straight-leg jean from Parisian label FRNCH, in a deep chocolate brown. Denim in a colour that behaves like a trouser — easier to dress up than indigo, warmer than black.

Cut straight and full-length from a high waist, with a clean front, five-pocket detailing and no distressing. The cotton-blend denim has a soft, dry handle and a rich even brown that holds its depth rather than fading out.

Fit and sizing: high-waisted with a straight, full-length leg. Available in sizes 26 to 32.

Fabric and care: 77% cotton, 23% polyester. Wash cool inside out with like colours. Do not tumble dry.

How to wear it: with cream and camel for a tonal autumn outfit, or with burgundy and navy to give the brown something to push against. A boot works better than a trainer with the straight leg.
